On The Move...
Salem Lutheran Church and Lyndale United Church of Christ have moved to interim space at Intermedia Arts at 2822 Lyndale Avenue South on April 1, 2009. The real estate closing for Lyndale UCC’s building at 31st and Aldrich was on March 31, 2009. This building sale is good news and will allow Lyndale UCC the resources necessary to fully partner with Salem in the redevelopment of the shared ministry center at 28th and Garfield, anticipated completion September 2010.
Salem and Lyndale are excited by the opportunity to be tenants at Intermedia Arts, a strong and vibrant arts organization. The churches would use Intermedia Arts’ space for Sunday worship, activities, and offices. The phone number for Salem remain:s 612-872-4650. The address will be 2822 Lyndale Ave. S., Minneapolis, MN 55408. A parking lot is accessible from Lyndale Avenue to the north of the building. Intermedia Arts neighbors the Egg and I, and Pastor Jen promises a new booth shaped office and plenty of coffee soon.
Journeying By Stages...Moving and Partnering!
Faced with the steep and rising costs of keeping up an extremely large (44,000 sq. ft) city building, Salem held its final worship service in its building at 28th and Lyndale in Minneapolis on October 29, 2006, Reformation Sunday. The following Sunday, November 5, 2006, All Saints’ Sunday, Salem began worshipping and focusing its ministry from the building of Lyndale United Church of Christ at 31st and Aldrich.
Salem and Lyndale UCC (31st and Aldrich) had been discussing a partnership for a year prior to the move. Salem's congregation couldn't refuse Lyndale United Church of Christ’s gracious invitation to share space, costs, and portions of the ministry. An interim partnership agreement guides the two congregations. This partnership is not a merger, but a way for both congregations to be better stewards of their resources while still celebrating their individual history and identity and living within this ecumenical agreement. Sunday School, Youth Group, some staffing, and many ministry programs are shared between the two congregations. They worship together approximately four times each year.
